Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced plans to impose a legal limit on the number of foreign students in schools and ban burqas and headscarves.
Speaking on Sunday at the national youth festival Fenix, Meloni said Italian children should not feel like a minority in their classrooms. The festival was organized by the youth wing of the Brothers of Italy party, led by Meloni.
The Italian prime minister said the government would ban burqas and headscarves in schools. She also said parents of foreign students who have difficulty integrating into the school system would be required to learn Italian.
Meloni said the regulation is expected to be submitted to the Council of Ministers soon.
