US actress and former UN Special Envoy Angelina Jolie shared Google Earth satellite images showing Israel's destruction in Gaza, saying: "Google Earth shows the physical destruction with extraordinary clarity. What it cannot show is what it means to live among it, what happened to the families who were killed, and what life is like for those who survived."
"You can now open Google Earth and see what was done to Gaza," Jolie wrote. Citing UN satellite analysis, she said 82% of Gaza's structures had been damaged as of June 16, and that as winter approaches about 2 million people, or 94% of the population, need shelter and essential items. "The destruction is visible. The needs are known. What matters now is whether they are met," she said.
