In the US, tech giant Meta has been sued for allegedly using artificial intelligence and digital systems during mass layoffs that disproportionately affected certain groups of employees.
Twenty-six Meta employees, laid off at the end of July, filed a federal lawsuit challenging the process that determined the layoffs of 8,000 workers, following a decision the company made months earlier.
The lawsuit alleges that artificial intelligence, keystroke and activity tracking systems, and performance data processed by algorithms were used to select employees for layoff.

The petition emphasized that the scores demanded by these systems could not be achieved by employees on sick leave or with certain restrictions, and alleged that the layoffs disproportionately affected employees on sick leave, maternity leave, or parental leave.
In a statement on the matter, Meta said the plaintiffs' claims were baseless and that decisions regarding the company's organizational structure were made by humans, not artificial intelligence.
