Migrant smuggling operations in 23 provinces leave 48 suspects detained
Migrant smuggling operations in 23 provinces resulted in the detention of 48 suspects. Of them, 31 were jailed, while judicial control measures were imposed on 17 others.
Operations against migrant smuggling were conducted in 23 provinces under the coordination of the Department of Combating Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking of the Gendarmerie General Command and the Coast Guard Command.
Unmanned aerial vehicles were used during the operations, while public order, highway and commando teams took part in the ground operations.
48 suspects detained
Forty-eight migrant smugglers were detained in operations conducted in Ağrı, Ankara, Aydın, Balıkesir, Bitlis, Çanakkale, Düzce, Edirne, Erzurum, Hatay, İzmir, Kırklareli, Kocaeli, Konya, Manisa, Muğla, Siirt, Sivas, Şanlıurfa, Şırnak, Tekirdağ, Tunceli and Van.
Of the suspects, 31 were jailed by the criminal judgeship of peace on duty. Judicial control measures were imposed on 17 others.
Items seized during the operations
As part of the operations, 83 vehicles and 18 boats and boat engines were seized.
