Minister of Family and Social Services Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş made statements on the agenda during a live broadcast on TRT Haber. Minister Göktaş said that the bill submitted to the Turkish Grand National Assembly with the joint signatures of the AK Party and the Nationalist Movement Party introduces significant regulations for the relatives of martyrs and veterans.
Göktaş stated that they met with martyrs' families and veterans in 18 provinces in line with the "Terror-Free Turkey" goal, and said, "Their sensitivities were directly reflected in the commission reports. In this bill, the sensitivities of martyrs' families and veterans were taken into account as a fundamental principle."
Significant increase in monthly payments
Minister Göktaş announced that the monthly payments of veterans, privates, non-commissioned officers, and security guards within the scope of the fight against terrorism have been increased. He noted that the monthly payments, which currently range from 45,000 to 75,000 lira, have been raised to between 58,000 and 86,595 lira with the new regulation. He also stated that the age limit required for medical examination has been raised from 41 to 55.
Monthly payment right for those not considered disabled for the first time
Göktaş emphasized that a regulation has also been made for those who were wounded in the fight against terrorism and on July 15 but were not considered disabled due to existing criteria. He said, "For the first time, our privates and non-commissioned officers who were wounded in the fight against terrorism but not considered disabled have been included in this law. For the first time, they have been granted the right to receive a monthly payment. Also, for our July 15 veterans, a regular monthly payment has been determined for the first time for those not considered disabled."
Minister Göktaş stated that they will continue to stand by the relatives of martyrs and veterans with additional social rights such as free travel cards, electricity, and water. "This is a historic regulation. For the first time, we have groups of veterans who are granted a monthly payment," he said.
Nearly 99,000 home visits
Emphasizing that efforts for the relatives of martyrs and veterans are not limited to one day a year, Göktaş said, "We have conducted nearly 99,000 home visits since January. We see this as a debt of gratitude. Whatever we do for them is not enough."
Minister Göktaş wished that the regulations would be auspicious, and said, "In the period ahead, as the state and nation, we will continue to always stand by them."
