OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said the benefits artificial intelligence will provide should be weighed against some of the risks the technology may bring.
In remarks to Politico, Altman said he and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had different views on AI regulation. He said the world must accept some negative consequences in order to benefit from the technology and allow people to make their own decisions.
Different regulatory approaches at OpenAI and Anthropic
Altman said he did not support an approach aimed at completely eliminating risks such as the misuse of artificial intelligence, fraud and cyberattacks. He said he believed people would use the technology for far more beneficial than harmful purposes.
At the same time, Altman stressed that genuinely catastrophic risks, such as completely losing control of artificial intelligence, cannot be accepted.
In a statement to Politico, Anthropic said its regulatory proposals covered only frontier AI models.
