Detained mayor Muhittin Böcek claimed in his additional statement to the prosecutor that he went to Manisa and took 950 thousand euros to Ferdi Zeyrek. Previously, in his statement on April 2, 2026, Böcek had denied allegations of giving money for candidacy and had been harshly criticized if he had made such a payment.
This statement by Böcek drew a reaction from Önder İnce, who was running Ferdi Zeyrek’s election campaign at the time. İnce strongly criticized the attack on Özgür Özel over a deceased person.
İnce listed campaign expenses
Önder İnce stated that he was running Ferdi Zeyrek’s election campaign. İnce questioned why the campaign was conducted without an election coordination center and why meetings were held at Zeyrek’s architecture office or the CHP Manisa Provincial Headquarters.
İnce also claimed that there were no election buses or vehicles during the campaign, no media purchases were made, and that campaign expenses were covered by Ferdi Zeyrek. He also noted that Zeyrek completed the entire campaign with a 2015 model vehicle.
Field expenses also came up
İnce said he used his own vehicle during the election process and paid for the fuel himself. He stated that everyone, including volunteers, covered their meal expenses out of their own pockets, and that deputies, the provincial chairman, and managers in the field also made expenditures.
In İnce’s statement, criticisms directed at Özgür Özel based on Böcek’s allegations were also strongly rejected. The statement directly shifted the debate to campaign financing and expenses made during the election process.
The statements reflected in the file sparked a new polemic between Böcek’s additional declaration to the prosecutor and İnce’s reaction to it. At the center of the debate were the allegations of money being taken to Ferdi Zeyrek and questions about how the election campaign was financed.
Böcek’s words and İnce’s response came to the agenda under the shadow of discussions related to CHP. The allegations and counter-statements further intensified the political polemic dimension of the process.
