Romania shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) illegally violating its airspace with an F-16 fighter jet.
According to a statement by the Romanian Ministry of Defence, radar systems detected a UAV illegally entering the country's airspace near the Ukrainian border at 08:22 local time. Two F-16s standing by under the NATO Air Policing mission intercepted the target and carried out standard identification and neutralization procedures.
The UAV was safely brought down in a sparsely populated area near the state border, and it was noted that Ministry experts would investigate the crash site.
The Ministry emphasized that it continues to constantly monitor the situation in Romanian airspace and remains in close coordination with its allies.
Meanwhile, Romanian President Nicușor Dan announced on his X social media account that the UAV came down 10 kilometers west of the Sfântu-Gheorghe settlement in the Danube Delta.
Just a day earlier, another UAV that illegally violated Romanian airspace was also downed by an F-16.
