The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure announced that north-south ship traffic in the Çanakkale Strait, which was halted due to a ship accident, has resumed.
According to the ministry's statement, the 190-meter-long San Marino-flagged dry cargo ship Pilatus Marine, en route from Syria to Russia, ran aground at the Nara turn of the strait due to engine failure.

An inspection by divers from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety found no damage to the ship. The vessel was then successfully refloated in a rescue operation.
The ministry statement included the following: "The operation, carried out under the coordination of our Çanakkale Strait Ship Traffic Services Center, with a pilot captain on board, and the participation of the KIYEM-1 boat and the KURTARMA-16 and KURTARMA-19 tugboats, was successfully completed. After the ship safely completed its strait passage, north-south ship traffic in the Çanakkale Strait was reopened."
Maritime traffic in the strait, which was disrupted for a while due to the incident, returned to normal after the rescue efforts.
