Floods and inundations caused the most damage
Various disasters caused damage to agricultural land across the country amid the effects of climate change. Floods and inundations caused the most damage, while losses caused by agricultural frost were more regional than they were last year.
Hail affected Şanlıurfa, Adana and Mersin in May and June. The same provinces also recorded storm-related damage. Floods, inundations, hail and storms affected field crops such as lentils, wheat and barley, as well as peach and nectarine production. Grapes and apricots suffered low-intensity damage from hail and frost.
Storms and hail caused damage in Samsun, Yozgat, Çorum, Tokat, Kars, Edirne and Manisa in July, while Samsun, Çorum and Giresun recorded damage from floods, inundations and landslides in August.
Damage claims for corn and sunflower increased in many parts of the country because of losses caused by wild animals. Fires in Antalya, Balıkesir and Edirne during the summer damaged crops, greenhouses and beekeeping operations.

In Amasya, Çorum, Balıkesir, Tokat, Bilecik, Çanakkale and Aydın, wild animals and birds damaged sunflower and corn crops in September and October. Hail and storms damaged citrus, sunflower and corn crops in Adana, Tokat and Amasya, while hail damaged apple production in Kahramanmaraş and Isparta.
Hazelnut-growing areas in Samsun, Ordu and Giresun were affected by floods, inundations and landslides. In Şırnak, rainfall damaged cotton, while recent rainfall caused flood- and inundation-related damage to sunflower crops.
Malatya, Manisa and Diyarbakır recorded the most claims
Under crop insurance, the highest number of damage claims concerned wheat, sunflower, barley, apricots and grapes. Hail, floods and inundations, wild-animal damage, frost and storms were the leading causes cited in the claims.
The highest number of crop damage claims came from Malatya, Manisa, Diyarbakır, Amasya and Tokat. In livestock insurance, the main causes of claims were death, compulsory slaughter and the death of offspring.
