The TEKNOFEST 2026 competitions, organized under the leadership of the Ministry of Industry and Technology and the Turkish Technology Team Foundation (T3 Foundation), are continuing in Diyarbakır for their second day.
Finalist teams taking part in the competitions, which began yesterday at the Mesopotamia International Fair and Congress Center, are competing with their projects in eight different fields.
Finalists compete in eight contests
The competitions are being held in the categories of Industrial Robotic Applications, Jet Engine Design, Technologies for the Benefit of Humanity at the Primary School Level, Artificial Intelligence in Aviation, Biotechnology Innovation, Chip Design, Electronic Warfare and TEKNOFEST Vocational Skills.
Nurettin Şafak, an undergraduate student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, said he was taking part in the Electronic Warfare competition with five friends from Ankara. Şafak said they had reached the final among 350 applications and that teams from 21 different universities were competing.
Şafak said the competition offered an opportunity to meet different teams and examine various projects, adding that they had identified some aspects their own team had overlooked during the final stage. He also said they had visited Diyarbakır, liked the city and received a warm welcome from local residents.
Artificial intelligence projects in aviation
Kayra Necati Kaya, who is participating from Istanbul, said they were competing with a project they had developed in aviation. Kaya said their work focused on object detection, position estimation and reference-object detection.
Kaya said they had named their project in aviation and artificial intelligence “Vakkas.” He said the project was designed as a drone system that hunts drones, adding that the vehicle can lock onto kamikaze vehicles designated as targets and destroy them by firing a net through the net-launching mechanism in its front section.
