The truck queue at Hamzabeyli Border Gate reaches 27 kilometers
Truck drivers were redirected to Hamzabeyli Border Gate because of ongoing work at Kapitan Andreevo Border Gate, opposite Kapıkule. The queue reached 27 kilometers after the processing capacity on the Bulgarian side failed to meet demand, while drivers said they had been waiting for about three days.
Ongoing work at Kapitan Andreevo Border Gate, opposite Kapıkule, has led truck drivers seeking to leave the country to use Hamzabeyli Border Gate instead.
As traffic increased at Hamzabeyli and processing on the Bulgarian side failed to meet demand, the truck queue reached 27 kilometers from the border gate.
Drivers say waiting times have increased
Truck driver Tarık Özhan said waiting times at Hamzabeyli had increased because of renovation work at Kapitan Andreevo. Özhan said drivers who previously used Kapıkule had also been redirected to Hamzabeyli and were waiting for about three days.
Özhan said the queue had previously been 15 kilometers and reached 35 to 40 kilometers during periods of increased traffic.
Gazi Odabaş said they had learned that the congestion at the border gate was caused by maintenance work on the Bulgarian side and that they expected the problem to be resolved.
