Turkey has made a significant change to the visa procedures applied to Syrian nationals entering the country.
Turkey’s Embassy in Damascus announced the new regulation for Syrian nationals planning to travel to Turkey. Under the change, the requirement for visa-holding Syrian nationals to “travel by air” has been lifted.
Under the new arrangement, valid visas issued by Turkish diplomatic missions will be valid not only for entry through Turkey’s air border gates but also for entry through the country’s land border gates.
Valid visa holders can enter Turkey by land
The most significant result of the regulation is that it will expand the travel options available to Syrian nationals holding valid Turkish visas.
Under the previous procedure, Syrian nationals who had been issued visas were required to travel by air when entering Turkey. The new decision removes this restriction. As a result, individuals holding valid visas properly issued by Turkey’s diplomatic missions will also be able to enter Turkey through land border gates.
However, the change does not mean that the visa requirement for Syrian nationals has been abolished. The regulation changes the travel condition concerning which border gates may be used with a valid visa.
The Embassy in Damascus announced the change
Turkey’s Embassy in Damascus made the following statement:
“Valid visas issued by our missions will be valid for entry not only through our air border gates but also through all our land border gates.”
The new regulation provides significant convenience, particularly for land travel between Syria and Turkey.
Following the decision, Syrian nationals holding valid Turkish visas will be able to use land border gates as an alternative to air travel, provided they comply with the visa conditions and border-entry procedures.
