University students are developing satellite communication stations that can operate on moving platforms as part of the Aviation, Space and Technology Festival TEKNOFEST in Şanlıurfa.
The festival, held at GAP Airport, is organized by Türkiye's Ministry of Industry and Technology, the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation and STM, a Turkish defense industry company.
Mobile satellite station competition
The "Mobile Satellite Station" competition is being conducted under the supervision of ASELSAN in cooperation with the Türkiye Technology Team Foundation. The competition aims to develop engineering solutions that enable devices providing direct communication with satellites to operate efficiently and without interruption under changing field conditions.

Arda Şenel, captain of the Alesta team affiliated with the National Defense University Faculty of Maritime Studies, said the team of six students and one adviser works in software, electronics and mechanics.
Şenel said the team's primary goal was to improve the performance and stability of communication networks on warships while the vessels are moving. The system is designed to keep the wireless communication link of moving platforms stable during navigation.
In the system developed by the team, a fixed laser point representing a satellite signal is directed at a target. While the Stewart platform moves the device from below, an inertial measurement unit detects these changes and makes instantaneous adjustments to maintain the laser's position.
Şenel said they had successfully completed the task and that the system could correct itself without losing its pointing target if an unexpected malfunction occurred.

Students produced the components
Mahinur Esma Duman, captain of Istanbul Technical University's Akım team, said the 14-member team works in additive manufacturing, motion systems and control.
Duman said the team began preparing for the competition in January, designed and produced all of its mechanical and electronic components, and developed the control algorithms. The team aims to finish higher in the competition.
TEKNOFEST in southeastern Türkiye began on Wednesday and will welcome visitors through Sunday.
