Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry extended condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and to the people of Canada following an explosion and fire at a military base in Canada.
The ministry wished those injured a speedy recovery.
Explosion and fire spread from training area
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said four people were killed and dozens were seriously injured in an explosion and fire that broke out Saturday afternoon at the Wainwright Canadian Forces Base in Alberta.
Carney said the fire spread rapidly and strong winds hampered firefighting efforts. The fire began in the base’s training area, about 200 kilometers southeast of Edmonton, and later spread beyond the area.

Carney said Forest Service personnel were among those who lost their lives and that their relatives had been notified.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police leading investigation
Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty confirmed that there had been fatalities and injuries in the incident but did not provide figures. McGuinty said the situation remained ongoing and sensitive.
The Canadian Armed Forces said the fire was reported at around 4 p.m. local time. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is conducting the investigation, while military and civilian authorities continue to coordinate the response.
