Türkiye's Ministry of National Defence (MSB) announced that it was ready to sign an agreement with Egypt on the delimitation of maritime jurisdiction areas. The announcement was made at the ministry's weekly press briefing.
The ministry described Libya's House of Representatives approving the maritime jurisdiction agreement signed with Türkiye in 2019 as an important development. According to the MSB, if Egypt signs such an agreement with Türkiye, it would have more than 15,000 square kilometres of maritime jurisdiction area compared with a potential agreement it could sign with Greece.
"Our rights will be protected under international law"
The ministry stressed that rights and interests in the Eastern Mediterranean would continue to be protected under international law. It also announced that the Sea of Friendship-2026 exercise would be held in Alexandria as part of military cooperation between Türkiye and Egypt, featuring surface warfare, anti-submarine warfare and air defence operations, as well as underwater assault training.

MSB assesses developments in Sinjar
The MSB announced that it welcomed the Iraqi central government's efforts to strengthen state authority and normalize the region in Sinjar. The ministry said ending the presence of terrorist organisations and ensuring security through Iraqi forces would be an important development in establishing lasting peace in Sinjar and achieving the goal of a "terror-free region."
The statement said the process was being followed in coordination with the relevant state institutions. At the same meeting, the MSB also announced that Türkiye had assumed the deputy command of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) for one year.
