The Trade Ministry’s study, titled “Analysis of Women’s Role and Contribution to Exports,” which analyzes women’s contribution to Türkiye’s exports using micro-level data, has received the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) “International Award for Gender Equality in Trade.”
Developed by the Ministry’s General Directorate of Trade Research and Risk Assessment, the project received the award in the WTO’s “Sustainable Development and Gender Equality” category. The award was presented to Ministry representatives at a ceremony held on October 29 in Geneva as part of the WTO’s “Aid for Trade Global Review 2026.”

The study measures women’s contribution to exports not only as employees at exporting companies but also as managers and capital owners. Its findings are presented in detail by sector, technology intensity and province.
Launched in 2024 by the WTO’s Informal Working Group on Trade and Gender, the award recognizes policies, programs and projects that increase women’s participation in international trade and support their economic empowerment. The Ministry said the study provides a data infrastructure for policies that will strengthen women’s position in economic life.
