ASELSAN General Manager Ahmet Akyol said at the opening ceremony of TEKNOFEST Blue Homeland, held at Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command, that the seas and the navy have strategic importance in the geography where Türkiye is located.
Akyol said that the fate of 86 million citizens, as well as that of friendly countries that have placed their hopes in Türkiye, would be shaped by the strength at sea, adding that there is a greater need than ever for a strong navy.
Shipbuilding to resume in Gölcük
Akyol said shipbuilding would resume at Gölcük Naval Shipyard Command after a long hiatus and announced that the MİLDEN submarine, developed entirely with national resources, would also be produced at the shipyard in Gölcük.
Akyol said these efforts were of great importance for Kocaeli and Türkiye. He also announced that, in addition to ASELSAN's existing facility, construction had begun on a new facility at the shipyard.
Emphasis on TEKNOFEST's impact on young people
Akyol, whose grandfather was a shipyard retiree, said the shipyard had been a source of inspiration for him and the young people around him since his childhood. He said that even watching Gölcük Naval Shipyard from outside had encouraged many children to take an interest in military service, the navy and the defense industry.
Akyol said TEKNOFEST events were among the important investments in the future, adding that young people strengthened their interest in science and technology by taking part in competitions.
In his assessment of the importance of strength at sea, Akyol described Çaka Bey's establishment of the first navy in İzmir shortly after the Battle of Manzikert as an important message in terms of geography and strategy. He said the Turks who settled in Anatolia had seen from the earliest periods that the fate of the region was determined not only on land but also at sea.
Messages of thanks at the opening ceremony
Kocaeli Governor İlhami Aktaş thanked those who contributed to the event held in Gölcük, the city of the navy. Aktaş said the event would raise awareness among young people about the Blue Homeland and the seas, and that the horizons of the young people attending the program would broaden.
Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tahir Büyükakın said the scene created at the event was a source of pride for Türkiye.
