Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met with Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand in Istanbul. The meeting addressed the development of trade and economic relations between the two countries and negotiations on the Türkiye-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Bolat said they were pleased that the first round of FTA negotiations would begin during the week of November 30, 2026.

Memorandum signed between Eximbank and EDC
Following the meeting, Türk Eximbank and Canada's export support agency Export Development Canada (EDC) signed a memorandum of understanding. The memorandum is intended to strengthen export credit cooperation between the two countries and support Turkish and Canadian companies in developing joint projects in third-country markets, particularly in Africa, the Middle East and North Africa, and Central Asia.

Bolat said efforts would continue to deepen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and create new opportunities for companies.
The meeting took place after Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney's visit to Türkiye. During the visit, relations between the two countries were elevated to the level of a strategic partnership, while targets of $5 billion and then $10 billion in trade volume were announced.
