Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met with Libya's Government of National Unity Economy and Trade Minister Süheyl Abdülmüttalib Bûşîha in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 42nd COMCEC Ministerial Session. The meeting addressed opportunities for commercial and economic cooperation between the two countries.
"More than 500 years of deep-rooted relations"
In remarks on the meeting, Bolat described Libya as a "friendly and brotherly" country with which Türkiye has "more than 500 years of history and deep-rooted relations." He said the two sides had reaffirmed their commitment to the target of $5 billion in trade volume.
Bolat said they wished to bring businesspeople from the two countries together by organizing a Türkiye-Libya Business and Investment Forum alongside the first meeting of the Türkiye-Libya Joint Economic and Trade Commission (JETCO).

Contractors' issues discussed
The meeting also reviewed progress in resolving the current issues facing companies operating in Libya, where Turkish contractors undertook their first overseas projects.
Bolat said work would continue in the coming period, including efforts to strengthen the legal framework for trade and investment relations with Libya.
