Four bodies were recovered from the rubble of a building destroyed by an explosion yesterday morning in Athens’ historic and tourist district of Plaka. The bodies of two more people were also found beneath the rubble.
Four of the victims were members of a U.S. family who had come to Athens on vacation and rented one of the building’s apartments for a short stay. The other two were identified as an elderly couple living in the building.
The cause of the explosion has not yet been determined, while nearby buildings also sustained serious damage.
