Deputy Foreign Minister and EU President Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay was received by Montenegro’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ervin Ibrahimović during his visit to Montenegro. The meeting addressed deepening political dialogue between the two countries and cooperation in areas of common interest.
According to a statement by Montenegro’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the meeting, Ibrahimović congratulated Türkiye on the 103rd anniversary of the Republic. He noted that this year marks the 147th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries and the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of relations following Montenegro’s independence in 2006.

NATO alliance and intergovernmental agreement
Bozay highlighted the importance of cooperation under NATO, stressing that Türkiye and Montenegro, as allies, make a full contribution to collective security, stability and regional security cooperation. Bozay also expressed his satisfaction with the drafting of a G2G agreement to regulate cooperation between the two governments. The agreement is expected to provide a framework for implementing priority joint projects.
Ibrahimović underscored the importance of holding the ninth round of bilateral political consultations and said that more than 60 agreements had been signed between the two countries. The Montenegrin side also pointed to growing economic ties in nearly all areas in recent years, noting that Türkiye ranks second among sources of foreign direct investment in the country.
Immediately after visa requirements were introduced
Ibrahimović said that Montenegro was obliged to align with the European Union’s policies at every level during the final stage of its EU accession negotiations, and thanked Türkiye for its understanding and support throughout the process.
The meeting took place immediately after Montenegro introduced visa requirements, effective November 1, for nationals of Türkiye, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia and Belarus as part of its alignment with the EU’s visa policy. Under a decision adopted by the Montenegrin government on July 23, nationals of these countries must obtain a visa from Montenegrin diplomatic missions or VFS Global centers before entering the country. Those holding valid Schengen, U.S. or UK visas can enter without a visa for up to 30 days.
The parties agreed that friendship, their alliance and tangible cooperation provide a solid foundation for further developing relations.
