Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov on the sidelines of the 7th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Baku. The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced the meeting with a photo of the two ministers but gave no details of the talks.
As part of his contacts in Baku, Fidan was also received by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
“An unshakable bond between our leaders”
Speaking to reporters after the summit, Fidan said bilateral ties had passed many historical tests and rested on solid strategic foundations. “The principle of two states, one nation manifests itself in every field. There is an unshakable bond of friendship and brotherhood between our leaders. This bond has been tested in very difficult times, in times of war and crisis,” he said.

“Regardless of the circumstances, the strategic nature of Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations stands above all other issues,” Fidan said, adding that differing approaches on some matters may arise from time to time but should not be used to erode ties. “We are an ancient nation,” he said, noting that problems would be resolved by sitting down and talking in a civilized manner befitting that shared history.
Black Sea message
Fidan also addressed developments in the Black Sea, recalling that Türkiye has sought a complete end to the war from the outset. He said Ankara has made intense efforts to keep the Black Sea out of the war and that he had discussed the issue with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
