Tensions persist in the region
The meeting came as Saudi Arabia faced attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis. The U.S. Department of State had instructed its non-emergency personnel and their families to leave Saudi Arabia on October 23 because of Houthi attacks targeting civilian airports and critical infrastructure.
Faisal bin Farhan also held separate meetings in Atlanta with Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to a statement by the Saudi Foreign Ministry, the escalation in Yemen was discussed during the meeting with Lavrov. Following the meeting with Rubio, a contract was signed on the U.S. participation as an official participant in Expo 2030 Riyadh.
