Galatasaray’s management saw a second departure on the same day. Following Second Vice President Metin Öztürk, Galatasaray Sportif AŞ Vice Chairman Abdullah Kavukcu announced that he had also resigned from the club’s board.
Kavukcu: There was a verbal dispute between the two sides
In a statement posted on his social media account, Kavukcu said that he and Metin Öztürk had a verbal dispute after the board meeting on October 27. Kavukcu said he was deeply saddened that the dispute had been conveyed to the public, “especially on social media, in an exaggerated manner and with statements that did not reflect the truth, far removed from its actual dimensions.”
“I have decided to resign from my position as a board member so that personal matters do not cast even the slightest shadow over the peace, reputation and goals of our club,” Kavukcu said. He stressed that his commitment to Galatasaray was not limited to any position or title and that he would continue contributing to the club’s success.
Öztürk had resigned over an alleged physical assault
Earlier in the day, Metin Öztürk said in a post on his X account that he could not accept the “act that turned into a physical assault and an insult to my deceased mother” at the October 27 meeting. He announced his resignation from all board memberships at the club and its affiliated companies. Öztürk did not name anyone in his statement.
The dispute allegedly concerned whether a club member should be referred to the disciplinary board. The club has made no official statement on the incident.
With Kavukcu, one of the prominent figures in the club’s football operations and transfer processes, also leaving, attention has turned to Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek.
