Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met with Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, Mohammed Nidal al-Shaar, in Damascus during the International Damascus Trade Fair and discussed steps to increase bilateral trade to $10 billion. The meeting addressed transport and customs crossings, trade facilitation, and the role Turkish private companies could play in Syria’s reconstruction.

Minister Bolat sets $10 billion Türkiye-Syria trade target

Trade Minister Ömer Bolat met with Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry, Mohammed Nidal al-Shaar, in Damascus during the 63rd International Damascus Trade Fair.

Bolat said the meeting addressed steps to increase bilateral trade between Türkiye and Syria to $10 billion.

Trade facilitation on the agenda

The meeting assessed cooperation to facilitate trade, particularly in transport and at customs crossings. The role Turkish private companies could play in Syria’s reconstruction was also among the topics discussed.

Bolat said the commitment to follow up on the agreements reached at the Türkiye-Syria JETCO Meeting held in April and turn them into tangible results had been reaffirmed.

Trade Minister Bolat said efforts to further strengthen the economic and trade ties between Türkiye and Syria on the basis of mutual benefit would continue.

Trade fair program in Damascus

Bolat said his visit was taking place in connection with the 63rd International Damascus Trade Fair and with a large business delegation. The meeting with Syria’s Minister of Economy and Industry al-Shaar took place during the first part of the visit.
