Speaking at the 8th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Moscow, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that the possibility of cooperating with U.S. partners on projects in the Arctic is being examined.
Putin said, "We are actively working with many countries around the world in the Arctic and are interested in joint work. Until quite recently, European partners were working with us at our fields, as were Chinese partners. Now we are examining the possibility of joint work with American partners."
Putin said Russia's own liquefied natural gas (LNG) technologies are being used in the Arctic's challenging conditions, adding that Russia is open to technological cooperation and technology sharing in the gas sector.
In the same speech, Putin argued that Europe had harmed its own industry and social sector by abandoning Russian energy and recalled the Russian proverb meaning, "He who digs a pit for someone else falls into it."
