The Interior Ministry announced that Serkan Kurtuluş, an organized crime leader wanted internationally under a Red Notice, was arrested in Argentina and extradited to Türkiye.
The ministry said the operation was carried out following efforts coordinated by the Interpol-Europol Department and the departments of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime and Intelligence under the General Directorate of Security, along with the Foreign Ministry and the Justice Ministry.
Crimes for which Kurtuluş was wanted
Serkan Kurtuluş was wanted for premeditated murder, intentional killing and establishing an organization to commit crimes.
The ministry also said a warrant had been issued for Kurtuluş in connection with armed robbery committed by multiple people to benefit the criminal organization, as well as repeated threats made with a weapon and by multiple people, exploiting the intimidating power of the existing criminal organization.
Interior Minister Çiftçi speaks
Commenting on Kurtuluş’s extradition to Türkiye, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi said that leaders of criminal organizations would be found and brought to Türkiye wherever in the world they fled.
Çiftçi said Türkiye was not a place where criminals could take refuge and noted that the Interior Ministry’s priority was to maintain public order in the streets.
