Russia and Ukraine carried out a new prisoner-of-war exchange at the Novaya Guta border crossing on the Belarus-Ukraine border. In the first exchange since August, the parties handed over 270 soldiers each.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that 270 Russian soldiers had been returned, while 270 Ukrainian prisoners of war were handed over to Ukraine. The released Russian soldiers are receiving medical and psychological support in Belarus and will later be taken to Russia.
Zelenskyy: Most had been held captive since 2022
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the exchange as an important outcome and said most of the returning Ukrainian soldiers had been held captive since 2022.

A day before the exchange, the parties had handed over the bodies of 277 soldiers who had died at the same border crossing. Twelve families were also reunited through the mediation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
