A shark trapped for a month in a canal in the southeastern South Korean port city of Busan was removed during officials’ third attempt.
Yonhap reported that the shark, named “Bukang-i,” was first spotted in the canal on September 18. The number of people who came to the area to see the animal surpassed 1.6 million as of Sunday.

Municipal and coast guard teams guided the shark toward Marina Bridge using a net attached to a floating platform. The animal was later seen in waters near a pier, outside the canal.
After two unsuccessful attempts, officials took action for a third time out of concern that the shark could die if the water temperature fell further. Since the waters near the pier are not considered open sea, officials hope the animal will eventually reach the open sea.
