Taksim Solidarity held a press conference at the conference hall of the Chamber of Architects and Engineers of Turkey Büyükkent Branch in Beyoğlu, Istanbul, ahead of the anniversary of the Gezi Park resistance. At the meeting attended by representatives of many political parties and institutions, a banner reading "Darkness goes, Gezi remains" was opened. The press statement was read by Aydan Adanır Usta, Secretary of the Istanbul Provincial Coordination Board of TMMOB. Adanır Usta stated that the Gezi Park resistance was one of the most massive and creative popular movements in the history of the country. She expressed that Gezi was the voice of millions opposing the government's oppression and anti-democratic practices. She also said that Gezi was a symbol of coming together, solidarity, and the hope for an equal and dignified life. Adanır Usta noted that Osman Kavala has been detained for over 9 years in the Gezi trial, while Tayfun Kahraman, Can Atalay, Çiğdem Mater, and Mine Özerden have been detained for over 4 years, emphasizing that this situation is unlawful and that the decisions of the Constitutional Court and the European Court of Human Rights should be implemented. The statement described the attacks on CHP as a coup against democracy and called for being in Taksim on Sunday, May 31, 2026, on the 13th anniversary of Gezi. A moment of silence was observed in memory of those who lost their lives in the Gezi resistance, and it was requested to stand together for equality, freedom, justice, and democracy.
