The teams meet again after 13 years
Trabzonspor and Drogheda United became sister clubs in 2010. A match scheduled to be played between the two teams in Dublin, the capital of Ireland, on March 21, 2013, was canceled because of heavy rainfall.
Although Trabzonspor traveled to Ireland on a private plane, the referee did not allow the match to be played because of the heavy rain and pitch conditions. The two clubs met in a friendly in Trabzon 13 years after that cancellation.
Ambassador Aivo Orav, head of the European Union Delegation to Türkiye, and the ambassadors of several EU member states also watched the match. After the game, representatives and players from the two clubs posed for a group photo; the visiting team's players then walked around the stands where the maroon-and-blue supporters were seated and greeted them.
