In occupied Jerusalem, despite the restrictions imposed by Israel since October 2023, more than 70 thousand Palestinians performed Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa Mosque. According to information provided by the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf Department, more than 70 thousand people entered Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in the Islamic world, for Friday prayer. According to Anadolu correspondent, dozens of Israeli police were deployed at various points in the Old City and at the outer gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Police checked the identities of young Palestinians in the area. After the operation launched against Gaza on October 7, 2023, Israel is preventing tens of thousands of Palestinians from the occupied West Bank from entering Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. This year's high participation occurred during a period when access restrictions, especially for young people, have increased. Al-Aqsa Mosque continues to be a sensitive center for Palestinian Muslims, and any restriction is seen as a violation of religious freedoms. Additionally, Palestinians consider these restrictions as part of Israel's policies to Judaize East Jerusalem.
