Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan assessed his working visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on November 6 in a post on his social media account. Describing the visit as "extremely productive," Fidan said he had met with President Tufan Erhürman, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu to discuss bilateral relations and recent developments regarding the Cyprus issue.
Fidan said Türkiye has always prioritized the security, development and prosperity of the Turkish Cypriot people, adding: "As the Motherland and a Guarantor State, we continue to support our Turkish Cypriot brothers and sisters in building their own future freely, securely and prosperously."
"Sovereign equality is a priority condition for a solution"
Reiterating Türkiye's position on the Cyprus issue, Fidan said: "We believe that the most realistic solution to the Cyprus issue lies in the coexistence of two states on the island. Recognizing the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people, which are their inherent rights, is a priority condition for a fair and lasting solution."
Addressing the international community, Fidan once again stressed that the legitimate expectations of the Turkish Cypriots and the existing realities on the island must be taken into account.
A 46-second video shared by the Foreign Ministry about the visit opens with the title "November 6, 2026 Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus." The footage shows the TRNC flag in the Beşparmak Mountains, Fidan's arrival on the island aboard a Republic of Türkiye aircraft and his reception by TRNC officials, his meetings with President Erhürman, Prime Minister Üstel and Foreign Minister Ertuğruloğlu, and scenes from the meeting between the delegations.
Reference to President Erdoğan's call at the UN
Fidan said in his post that Türkiye would continue to defend the rights and interests of the Turkish Cypriot people on every platform and strengthen its solidarity with the TRNC in every field, in line with the vision President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had once again set out at the UN General Assembly. In his speech at the 81st UN General Assembly on September 22, Erdoğan argued that the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people must be recognized and called for an end to the isolation of Turkish Cypriots.

The visit had been announced in a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on November 5. During his contacts in Nicosia, Fidan also met with his counterpart, Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu.
Early congratulations for November 15
Concluding his post by thanking the Turkish Cypriots for their warm hospitality, Fidan also offered early congratulations on the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the TRNC, to be commemorated on November 15. The TRNC was declared on November 15, 1983.
