Senior officials from Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, all parties to the Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement, are meeting Iranian officials in Tehran, Iran’s capital, today.
Reuters, citing Saudi and Iranian officials, reported that Saudi Arabia will be represented by Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan by Commander of the Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Türkiye by Ibrahim Kalin, head of the National Intelligence Organization. Anadolu Agency also reported, citing Turkish security sources, that Kalin would attend the meeting. Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, is expected to lead the Iranian delegation.
First high-level contact since Houthi attacks
The meeting will be the first high-level contact between Iran and the alliance’s three members since the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen stepped up attacks against Saudi Arabia last month. Saudi Arabia also announced on Sunday that it had intercepted a new wave of missiles and drones.
Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said the meeting had been proposed at Pakistan’s initiative during Munir’s visit to Tehran last week, adding: “This four-way meeting in Tehran could certainly be an effective and important step.”

Rayed Krimly, Saudi Arabia’s deputy minister for public diplomacy, said the visit was part of efforts to reduce tensions among the parties to the ongoing crisis and expressed support for mediation by Qatar and Pakistan.
“An attack on one is considered an attack on all”
The Mecca Mutual Defense Agreement, signed by Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in August, considers an armed attack against one party to be an attack against all parties. Pakistan ratified the agreement last week, while the ratification process in Türkiye is continuing in the Grand National Assembly.
The alliance’s ministers met in Riyadh this month and agreed on the “rapid deployment” of military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia. The Tehran meeting comes as harsh rhetoric between the United States and Iran has intensified.
