Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı paid an official visit to Rome to attend the World Food Forum 2026 at the headquarters of the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). Türkiye’s embassy in Rome shared photos of the visit.
Yumaklı spoke on Oct. 14 at the Rome Water Dialogue high-level session held as part of the forum.
"A plan covering the next 10 years"

Yumaklı said Türkiye has prepared a National Water Plan covering the next decade, using water-focused production planning to decide which crops should be grown where, so as to protect water while securing farmers’ incomes. Noting that drought management plans have been drawn up for all of the country’s 25 river basins, he said: "We plan to complete our drought forecasting and early warning systems in 2027. Our aim is not to respond after a drought begins, but to identify the risk in advance."
He also noted that Türkiye is running a Sustainable and Integrated Water Resources Management Project in the Gediz Basin with FAO and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Gaza and COP31
Calling access to water "a basic right to life," Yumaklı said Türkiye opposes the use of innocent civilians’ access to water and food as a tool of pressure and siege, especially in Gaza.

Recalling that Türkiye will host the COP31 climate summit in Antalya next month, he said: "We will bring the link between water, food and climate to the centre of COP31’s agenda. I invite you all to contribute to this effort in Antalya." He said the Turquoise Nexus Initiative aims to bring the water-food-climate link together in a shared mechanism that countries can shape to their own conditions.
