Türkiye’s Embassy in Baku has dismissed as “completely baseless” reports that Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held secret meetings and issued instructions during his visit to Azerbaijan.
The claims appeared on Oct. 17 on several Azerbaijani news sites, led by Qafqazinfo, under the headline “Behind the scenes of Hakan Fidan’s meeting at GYF.” They alleged that Fidan visited a foundation set up by Turkish philanthropists in Baku, held a secret meeting there and gave instructions.
“Courtesy photos only”

The embassy said Fidan had only posed for courtesy photos with many people during the visit, among them members of an organization with legal status in Azerbaijan.
It also said that a letter allegedly sent to the Turkish parliament, cited in the reports, does not exist.
“Deliberate lies”
Talk of interference in internal affairs, intelligence operations, recruiting agents of influence, and coup and chaos plans amounts to “deliberate lies,” the statement said. The embassy argued that the reports seek to harm Türkiye–Azerbaijan relations and to “turn the brotherly Azerbaijani people against Türkiye.”
It urged the Turkish and Azerbaijani public not to give credence to such manipulative content.
Background to the visit
Fidan traveled to Baku for the 7th summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA), where he met President Ilham Aliyev and Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. During the visit he said the two countries may at times take different approaches, but these should not be allowed to erode their strategic relationship.
