The 2027 theme has been set for the “March 12 Adoption of the National Anthem” and “Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Week” events held annually under the coordination of the Ministry of National Education. According to the ministry’s statement, all programs to be organized across Türkiye and at its overseas missions will be held under the theme “Akif’s Ideal, the Century’s Story.”
The theme was decided at a meeting chaired by Deputy Minister of National Education Ömer Faruk Yelkenci of the Central Executive Board, which plans activities for March 12, the date the National Anthem was adopted, and the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Commemoration Week held from December 20 to 27.
Twelve institutions joined the board
Representatives of the ministries of National Education, National Defense, Interior, Foreign Affairs, Culture and Tourism, and Youth and Sports attended the meeting, along with representatives of the Presidency of Religious Affairs, the Council of Higher Education, the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History, TRT, the Türkiye Authors’ Union and Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University. The meeting reviewed this year’s activities and addressed planning events in Türkiye and abroad in line with the selected theme, as well as cooperation among institutions.
Parents will also join the events
Following the meeting, the delegation visited Taceddin Dervish Lodge in Ankara, where Mehmet Akif Ersoy wrote the National Anthem, and the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Culture House located there. Speaking here, Yelkenci said the work of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, known as the National Poet, emerged at the end of a long and noble struggle and represented the spirit of the National Struggle. He commemorated with respect the heroes of the National Struggle, foremost among them Ghazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
Yelkenci emphasized that the spirit embodied in the National Anthem was one of the most important means of passing national awareness and historical consciousness on to future generations, and highlighted the importance of instilling this awareness in students. Thanking those who contributed to the events and the students who embraced the work, Yelkenci said parents were planned to be included in the events in the coming period.
