US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that it had established a task force called “Iron Gate” to prevent Iran from transporting advanced weapons and other materials by land. Created under an order issued by CENTCOM Commander Adm. Brad Cooper on Nov. 7, the task force will consist of approximately 20 civilian and military personnel based in Tampa, Florida.
According to the announcement, the team will coordinate with other US agencies to prevent advanced weapons systems, dual-use technologies, sanctioned materials and illicit revenue flows from passing through Iran’s land borders and the Caspian Sea.
“The establishment of the Iron Gate Task Force reinforces the success of the stringent maritime blockade we are enforcing against Iran. Strengthening our cooperation with US agencies will further restrict Iran’s ability to finance terrorism, rebuild its weapons factories and rearm its military,” Cooper said.

CENTCOM did not disclose which border crossings or neighboring countries would be targeted. However, the map released by the command highlighted Iran’s borders with Türkiye, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan and Pakistan.
The US naval blockade announced in July 2026 covers entry to and exit from Iranian ports, except for humanitarian aid. According to CENTCOM, the blockade has prevented Iran from exporting more than $25 billion worth of crude oil in recent months. Tehran, meanwhile, is making the lifting of the blockade a condition for reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
On the same day, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein also announced that the United States had asked Baghdad to close all but two of its border crossings with Iran.
