Russia’s Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery in the Samara region was engulfed by a large fire after an attack involving drones on the morning of October 30. Black smoke rising from the Rosneft-owned facility was visible from many parts of the region.
Samara Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev confirmed the attack and said air defense systems had been activated. The governor later reported that two people had died while the consequences of the attack were being addressed. Flights at Samara airport were restricted for a time.
Ukrainian drone manufacturer Fire Point said it had struck the refinery with long-range FP-1 drones and that one of the targets was a diesel fuel refining unit. Russian independent news outlet ASTRA wrote that the facility also produced jet fuel for the Russian army.

The strike came hours after The Wall Street Journal wrote that Kyiv had paused attacks on Russian refineries under pressure from Washington. It was the first known attack on a Russian refinery in about two weeks.
Yuri Ushakov, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s foreign policy adviser, said Ukrainian officials had “ignored U.S. President Donald Trump again” by attacking the refinery.
